Rice Consolidated ISD District Information


  • Rice Consolidated Independent School District encompasses 437 square miles in Colorado County, Texas. It has an enrollment of over 1250 students attending six campuses.  District offices are located in Altair, Texas. The District has a 213 member staff, and is governed by a seven member Board of Trustees who serve staggered, three year terms.

  • The District provides services for Pre-K through 12, spending an average of $5,038 per student annually. It has a student/teacher ratio of 12.5 to 1 - below the state average of 16.1 students per teacher. It operates on an $15 million annual budget, levies an ad valorem tax rate of $1.2125 per $100 of assessed value, and has a property tax base of more than $593,000,000. The District offers no tax abatements.

  • Rice CISD is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency.  We are very proud of our schools and the successes they have experienced both academically and in extracurricular activities.  Our sports teams participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 13-AAA & District 28-AAA. Rice CISD fields athletic teams in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track, power lifting, cross country, tennis, golf, softball and volleyball.  Rice CISD is also home to an award winning marching and concert band program, a successful One Act Play program, a successful art program in high stakes competitions, and a very successful Future Farmer's of America program.

§504 Child Find Notice

Pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the District has a duty to identify, refer, evaluate and if eligible, provide a free, appropriate public education to disabled students.  For additional information about the rights of parents of eligible children, or for answers to any questions you might have about identification, evaluation and placement into Section 504 programs, please contact the District’s Section 504 Coordinator Melody Grigar at  979-234-3531 ext 1016 or by mail at PO Box 338, Altair, TX 77412
